Star Wars Episode III
The gang went to see Star Wars Ep. III on opening day at Tinseltown in Gates. We were lucky enough to manage to get tickets to the new DLP theatre that they have there. The movie was awesome. Much better than the last two Star Wars movies that they have made. This one was much closer in quality to the original trilogy. Still too much of an effects movie but Lucas just doesn't have the skills to pull off anything else. But the movie is awesome and really ties the two trilogies together nicely.
The big star of this new movie, however, was not one of the actors and certainly not Lucas but was, in fact, the new DLP projector. By using a DLP projector (that's DLP like a really nice version of a good home projector) they are able to release the movies without using any film. This means that the film doesn't deteriorate as it is used and doesn't get scratched and faded. But even more than that, the new format is so much brighter, cleaner, clearer, crisper, colourful, vibrant and contrasty than the previous analogue film that you just have to see it to believe it. I never expected to see a movie in the theatre look this good. It was truly amazing. I actually want to go out to the movies again because they finally look better than they do in my house. But only at that one theatre for now. But soon, everyone will be switching. They won't be able to compete with the DLPs since the DLPs will save money in the long run. They have numerous operational advantages.
So I definitely suggest the movie but I cannot stress strongly enough that you must see it at one of the new digital theatres. If you can't find one around, drive somewhere to find one. It is worth it.
